San Jose Unified School District, is known as an innovative urban school district that is reinventing the education system by bringing together teachers and staff with parents and students, inspiring each to discover their own greatness.
In 2012-2013, the SJUSD made a concerted effort to address the opportunity gap and ensure that all students were equipped with the skills necessary to succeed in the 21st-century global society. The decision-makers at SJUSD were committed to finding solutions and taking aggressive steps toward achieving this mission.
The College Readiness Indicator Systems (CRIS) initiative offered SJUSD a chance to integrate its work with CRIS into the 2012-2017 strategic plan. This presented a unique opportunity for the district to align its efforts with its long-term goals.
SJUSD Performance
The California Department of Education has recently made available an online dashboard, which is a resource intended to help communities access relevant information about K-12 districts and schools within the state.
According to the Dashboard, SJUSD consistently outperforms state averages as demonstrated by its strong performance on the state dashboard. The district receives a “Green” (high) rating in four out of the five state indicators (English language arts, mathematics, graduation rate, and suspension rate) and a “Yellow” (medium) rating in English learner progress, which is a higher rating than many comparable districts.
While there is always room for improvement, these results show the positive impact of the investments made in students and staff since the implementation of the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF).
SJUSD is committed to using data-driven analysis to inform its decision-making and will continue to use the state reports to guide its efforts in allocating resources to meet the needs of its students.
