5 Must-Watch Entrepreneurial Movies for Kids

Parenting is hard. Juggling multiple roles is harder. And prioritizing roles is the hardest. So what makes it so hard? The paucity of time. No matter how much parents try, it is never enough. Playing the role of hands-on parents to kids is an uphill task for the millennial moms and dads because each situation throws up unique challenges forcing them to make tough choices.

The fourth Industrial Revolution has brought many changes and challenges for parents. Currently, skills mismatch in the workplace is the biggest concern. According to a Deloitte report, the growing proportion of youth lacking the basic skills to take part in the workforce correlates to unprecedented rates of youth unemployment or underemployment.

The studies show survival will be easier for highly skilled individuals in the future. One skill that tops the list is entrepreneurial skills because it has become synonymous with creative thinking and problem-solving. Thanks to the awareness, each parent knows that their child should have a competitive advantage to climb the success ladder without slipping or falling.

They say every problem has a solution. True! Sometimes mundane resources around us can solve bigger issues. For instance, by combining education and entertainment, also known as edutainment, parents can make learning easier for their children. The entertainment world has some fantastic movies that have important entrepreneurial lessons.

Here is a list of the five must-watch movies for kids that will inspire them:

    • Becoming Warren Buffett

The first on the list is a remarkable success story directed by Peter W. Kunhardt. The film traces the incredible journey of Warren Buffett, an American investor, and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway and one of the world’s largest conglomerates.

The film is significant for various reasons—it highlights Buffett’s investment philosophy, how to recognize economic potential, how to interpret data, and why it is important to think beyond data. Another important lesson that one can learn from one of the richest men in the world is reading and understanding documents before deciding. Chris Chuang had penned this 2017 biographical drama that encompasses all the vital information.

    IMDB Rating: 7.6/10

    • The Founder

Next on the list is The Founder and children can easily relate to it because it is about McDonald’s, one of the largest fast-food chains in the world that apparently transformed the eating habits of Americans.  Director John Lee Hancock brought this biographical drama to the big screen in the year 2016.

    IMDB Rating: 7.2/10

    • Joy

An invention could be big or small. What is important is identifying the opportunity and acting accordingly! Innovative American entrepreneur Joy Mangano did the same and joined the leagues of millionaires by coming up with self-wringing Miracle Mop.

Titled Joy, the film brings her inspiring story to the screen and gives hope to millions to have confidence in their abilities and turn their fortune around by using their skills. Director David O. Russell’s biographical 2015 drama highlights the importance of persistence in life.

    IMDB Rating: 6.6/10

    • Limitless

It’s important to tell children about both sides of a coin. This film tells them about the repercussions of shortcuts. Sometimes we are tempted to take a shortcut to success without knowing its repercussions. Limitless highlights the pros and cons of taking a shortcut through the character played by Bradley Cooper. Director Neil Burger’s science-fiction thriller was written by Leslie Dixon.

They released the film in 2011 and it opened to mixed reviews, however, many found it entertaining.

    IMDB Rating: 7.4/10

    • The Fountainhead

Old is gold, they say. This black and white era movie, a screen adaptation of Ayn Rand’s bestselling novel of the same name, teaches one of the most important lessons–never compromise your vision.

The protagonist in the film is much ahead of his time, but he goes through a string of rejection and humiliation because he couldn’t find people who could resonate with his visions. The film is too old for kids, but watch director King Vidor’s 1949 drama for the strong message that it carries.

    IMDB Rating: 7.1/10

There is a maze of dos and don’ts around us, and staying away from that maze is important to find practical solutions. Break the rules and invent new ones to shape your child’s future.
